Paypal gets a rival
Google Inc. unveils a much-anticipated payment service that aims to make online shopping more convenient and give advertisers another reason to pour more money into the Internet search leader.

This post is to throw some of my views on this news. To all those Microsoft bashers, calling their business a monopoly and the subsequent criticism.. what about this?
"The service is available only to businesses that advertise through Google's network. To inform users of which advertisers are supporting the program, a green shopping cart icon would appear by the advertisement in Google's pages.Google Checkout would be offered to advertisers for free"
Okay, to use this "free" service, you need to advertise through Google! That costs! Isn't this similar to Microsoft releasing free stuffs, that work only with their OS or their other technologies/products that cost? Due to this, If Microsoft is blamed for their monopolizing character, what about Google? Aren't they essentially trying to dominate the Internet?
Well, Microsoft dominates the OS and Software and Google is trying to dominate information!
And with this, Google has gone one more step ahead in invading our privacy!
Gmail, Blogger, Froogle, Search, Favorites, Accelerator, Checkout, Notebook, Spreadsheets, Orkut ... use all of these, and what is left for you to hide?

For once I agree with you. This is the kind of tactics MS have been criticized heavily for using. I used to like google at one time a lot, esp after launch of Gmail. But over the last year or so, it has become very wreckless. If Google doesnt watch out, it will loose its reputation soon.
Very interesting point... It's all about PERCEPTION. Like Microsoft-Google, there are so many examples in other fields...
One newspaper is termed sensational, while actually it some other paper that is actually sensational... (I am a journalist, so I won't name them!)
Infosys has done so much for Karnataka, yet it is fall guy for some state politicians like Deve Gowda!
So many more...
